Wrote a short Marco/Jake (say what? Me?)
drabble in response to
redsilverchains prompt 'Animorphs, Jake/Marco, Then I heard your heart beating, you were in the darkness too/So I stayed in the darkness with you' at
The Doomed Ship Comment Ficathon.
Marco had wondered why he keeps returning; he has his mother back, the war is over for God’s sake, the world is personally his freakin’ oyster, but for some reason he continuously finds himself circling back to Jake’s house. He could be off in Hollywood right this minute, a new desperate, hot girl draped suggestively over his arm, rubbing elbows with all the important people in the industry under the dazzling lights of an expensive exclusive nightclub because he- Marco- is someone important now… But he isn’t.
Instead he is sitting on an uncomfortable wooden lawn chair in Jake’s backyard, watching his lifelong best friend forget to exist. Jake’s eyes never meet his in the darkening twilight, and the air between them is filled by his half hearted jokes and antidotes about life beyond Jake’s yard- and the only response he receives is silence.
Looking at the Jake- barefoot, bare chested, and staring at the horizon that will never show him the people he wants to see coming home to him whole- Marco realizes he isn’t ever going to leave for good. Like a planet circling a sun, Jake will always keep pulling him back.
