Post-Serenity crew somehow ends up with a mystery baby inside a load they are transporting across great distance, and River sabotoges the ship beyond what Kaylee can easily repair (even if she wanted to) when Mal insists that they turn around and return infant to her apparent planet of origin.
Picky toddler ONLY sleeps when Mal or Jayne are holding her - to everyone else's amusement - but Simon is ab-so-lute-ly hopeless with her. Zoe has Issues dealing with the fact that this *could have* been the child Wash wanted (without getting angsty about it), and Inara is caught between longing she doesn't want to discuss and irritation that Mal keeps dumping the kid on her when he thinks she isn't looking.
General panic happens whenever River decides to teach the tyke Hide and Seek in the bowels of the ship - but Mal pretends he's unaffected. (Not!)
In the long run they can't find the little girl's parents and she's raised by the greatest dysfunctional group of misfits afloat in the verse.
