You are the only person in the world I know who *ACTUALLY* took basket weaving in college. So when I saw this in our local newspaper, I thought I would pass it on.
I'll have you know I am not taking "basket weaving," lol...it's for my folklore class! And we're pretty much learning the craft for the same reason the students there are, to preserve it and understand something of what people used to go through for the things they possessed. Only our baskets aren't made from willow, redbud, etc. They're made from American Rivercane (Arundenarea gigantea), and we're weaving baskets much different than the Maidu made. Cherokee/Choctaw style. Pretty similar. I really like it, I think I'll keep making these things outside of class for a hobby.
