Since we trekked around Tokyo yesterday so much, today was a bit less intense. We slept in and didn't really get moving until the late afternoon, though we did have a delicious breakfast of onigiri (yes, again): today we had delicious gomoku onigiri (containing shiitake mushrooms, chicken, carrots, and... umm... two other things that I can't recall) as well as a salmon onigiri. Mmmm.
We left for Asakusa, where we went hunting for a type of bowl that Dori wanted. However, it turns out we showed up a bit too late, so we'll have to return later.
We ate
monjayaki for dinner, which was quite bizarre, though it was a bit like
okonomiyaki, only a lot runnier. I must say I was surprised at its texture (a bit like porridge). I thought it was rather delicious, and I'd definitely like to go out and get some more sometime soon, but I still prefer okonomiyaki. The drunk proprietor of the shop bought us a beer and provided ridiculous conversation throughout our meal.
From Asakusa, we went to Shinjuku to meet up with our friend Aki (Dori's old roommate). We did a few awesome things:
-walk over to see the ridiculously line in front of Krispy Kreme and then go and get delicious, slightly more Japanese-style donuts from the indomitable Mr. Donut
-eat delicious yakitori and many other great things grilled on sticks (green onions, cloves of garlic, pieces of pork, fried tofu, and more)
-go to kabuki-chou, Japan's red light district, but avoid going into any of the interesting-looking, likely Yakuza-owned hostess bars
Finally, we went back to Igor's place to relax and play some games while eating モンブラン (according to Wikipedia, "a dessert made of puréed chestnuts and whipped cream, often on a meringue base"). Tomorrow we'll likely be hanging out with lots of friends. It should be a good time!
