It's pretty frustrating growing up in a town where the extent of your abilities has been predetermined before you can even use them.  Smalltown living has its occasional perk, but there are way more setbacks.  My acceptance letter from Madison Lake University was a ticket out of Pennville into a better life.  Everything was taken care of- classes, books, even a dorm room, and though dormliving might not be glamorous,  it beats the hell out of living in my parents house.  At first, I was really excited about getting away and meeting new people, but when I went to claim my room, I was told they’d already given it to someone else.  Since I couldn’t go home defeated, and my scholarship doesn’t cover off campus living, I answered an ad for a live-in housekeeper.  The position seemed fantastic at first: room and board in the best apartment complex in the city, but my employer is a golddigger who brings home a different man each week.  Even worse,   I'm stuck babysitting her charge- a 21 year old tomboy with no social skills who expects me to entertain her. Thanks to some jackass in Scholarships, my entire scholarship has been purged from the system, and I nearly had a meltdown right there.  Guess I'm stuck here until I can find another job.   This isn’t the direction I thought my life would take, but I can’t go crawling back to Mom and Dad just yet.  It'd only prove them right.
