GUESS who i met today! Chris Kimball!! I know it's amazing.
He was funny, charming AND he cooks. *swoons*
The famous editor of Cooks Illustrated magazine and the co-host of America's Test Kitchen was in Pasadena, at Vroman's bookstore. He was like 1.5 hours late, but he was sooooooooooooooooooooo wonderful when he got there. Seeing him in person was beyond words. I was all giddy, this must be what it's like for little kids to meet Santa for the first time (those who actually believed in Santa to begin with).
I didn't get to sit in his lap, but he did read some amusing emails from viewers and shared some loooovely stories about him and Julia (as in, Child), how he doesn't believe in nutritional facts, and the time when his staff tried to trick him with chili sauce and the vodka. It was absolutely delightful, like a perfect creme brulee, crisp, maturely sweet, light but substantial and completely frivolous. For most of it, I had my hands clasped in my lap over my newly purchased ATK Family Cookbook, grinning madly and just trying to keep myself from running up and hugging him. And thennnnnn he signed ourcookbooks, magazines - whatever. And he signed our names on them, and "Great to meet you." *more swooooning*
Then, because Sohee and I were staaaaaaaarving, we went to a nearby, yelp.com recommended, diner "Tops." The serving of fries was of course unnaturally abundant (though she and I managed to make QUITE a dent...) and then there were the scrumdidlyumptious 1/4lb. cheeseburgers and spicky pickled carrot sticks. Y.U.M.
And then the uproariously silly laughter (the "sui" closet, and the OC Yman, and something about sex - when is it NOT about sex?) in the car back. A flirtation with icecream and then we were home.
*sigh* a loooovely evening.
oh, and I got pulled over by a policecar whilst just turning left onto Colorado, b/c I did not signal when I merged. luckily, he only gave me a warning and was also kind enough to give us directions to Vromans (we were headed in exactly the wrong direction). It was a little scary, but in the end slightly fortuitous, and I will now proceed to signal like there's no tomorrow. =)
