A frustrating week

This has been a frustrating week. I have major computer problems--a nasty virus has infected. I got it off, finally, on Wednesday, but now I can't visit several of the websites that I desparately need to visit--Deviantart, google, yahoo, photobucket--because both IE and Foxfire hang halfway to loading them.

And, to top it off, I have three ruined ( Read more... )

I appreciate the compliment, but the problem you're going to have is that "real" artists generally want to be paid for their time. Doing commissions is a big hassle. Personally, I do as few as possible: I want to paint what's in my head, not what's in someone else's. "Notch on the resume" is actually kinda insulting. I know you don't mean it to be rude, so I'm not mad or anything, but I recommend strongly that you don't include that line in any further inquiries. :)

My main recommendation is to buck up and pay somebody to do a commission for you. Shop around on Deviant Art, there are quite a few artists who do excellent digital artwork and photomanipulations for reasonable rates. For some reason, I can't get Deviant Art to load on this computer, so I can't give you direct links, but off the top of my head, I think the artist Mizzd does inexpensive, but high quality photomanipulations for self-publishing authors. There are two other digital artists on my "Friend" list there that are shockingly inexpensive (and yet, very talented), but I can't remember their names. :( Look at wenchworks.deviantart.com friend list.

From what I have seen in the self publishing world, a lot of writers use clip art for their covers. Clip art is often quite cheap.

Thank you so much for your insight. I will try to contact some of the people in your friends list.
As far as paying someone, I'm still looking for a student or the likes of, to do the work. I really don't need a professional. I am opening up to the idea of digital artwork. Commissioning someone will be a last resort.
On a side note, It looks (by your photo's) as if your in the SCA. My wife was a few years back and was just wondering.
Again, thank you for the advice and good luck with your artwork.
