Thinking About The Marathon

Apr 17, 2015 14:40

In honour of the London Marathon, discoveredinalj is inviting fan-creations on a theme of Marathons up to and including 30 April.

You've probably all already read this, and I'm not posting this as a rec/review to the comm, because... well, see posts passim about me and posting to comms.

But my first thought, obviously, given The Lads and the London Marathon, was Cards On The Table - Part Two - the final part of JessinEngland's (Georgina Kirrin on The Circuit Archive) three-part Cards series, after Cards and Cards On The Table - Part One, in which, among other things, post-CI5 Older Lads run the London Marathon together and Bodie takes the opportunity to think and ponder, while he lets his body do the work.

Not sure if this needs any warnings. I love the series for the Lads separating and coming together again, just as friends... for the friendship, for the hope, for Bodie being very Bodie-ish in love... for the slow question of whether they will become more than just good friends...

Extract: [Bodie] took the bottle Doyle had just scooped up from a drinks station and drank deep.  Normally he would have emptied part of it over his head, but a brief shower ten minutes earlier had cooled them both.  The sight of Doyle with his running gear
plastered to him by rain had made Bodie thankful his blood was urgently required in his legs, the incipient erection which had threatened at Greenwich making an entirely unwelcome reappearance.  Still the loveliest arse in the Free World, that
was.
