Celebrity in the U.S.

I'd like to take this moment to share my view on this celebrity debacle in our country. I think it's ludicrous. I can't turn on the news, read a paper, walk down the street, go to work, without hearing about How many shots Britney can drink, How many sit ups Justin can do, How many times Bard and Angelina have sex a week. (On CNN, and every major news Network including local, they segue a triple homicide to Pamela Anderson's shotgun wedding. Now come on, this is something I'd only expect from the E channel.) There's a war going on!
Why do the citizens of this country care? To distract themselves, perhaps? From the mess, not only in Iraq, but economically, socially, and politically, on our own soil. Similar to the reprieve many sought during the depression, in the distraction of the theatre, vaudeville acts, and the circus. Wake up. Instead of asking "What does Anna Nicole's 3rd cousin, twice removed, have to say about her death?" We should be asking "How did the Patriot act get passed? When will the war end? How many have died? How much more wool can the U.S. government pull over our eyes? We are supposed to keep them in check. This current status of "celebrity" is the perfect beguilement to continue screwing a nation.
