ZOMG! Questions for my friends regarding Teh Internets:

1. When, and why, did people start prefixing "OMG" with a "Z"?

2. When, and why, did people start purposefully misspelling "The" as "Teh"?

THANK YOU. I have been wondering about these things, but it never really occurred to me to ask. The other thing that doesn't make a damn bit of sense to me is "can has." I have, on the internet, encountered such sentences as: "I can has wish you happy birthday!" I don't get it. It is gibberish to me.

Yeah, it's LOLCATS-speak. It's a dialect.

That's very cute. Lots of adorable pictures of kittens. But whoa, everything that could possibly be misspelled is. On purpose. They even misspelled "my." I know this is really stick-up-the-ass of me, but I majored in two languages in college. I think it would drive me crazy to be on that site all the time.

But kittens can't spell! They try so hard, but they make mistakes!

Oh, I get it. I'm just sayin' that I'm just grammar-nazi enough that it would stop being cute for me after about 5 minutes.
