Fahye's writing is lyrical and thoughtful. This detailed character study of Natasha from childhood through recruitment into SHIELD and the events of the movie includes not only the events that shaped Natasha but also how she feels or doesn't know how to feel about them. Her relationship with Clint is wonderfully, tenderly, platonically, and intimately portrayed. The Avengers show up quite late in the story but their small parts are rendered sharp and recognizably them.
