Black Blood by John Meaney. "Donal Riordan, a recently murdered Tristopolis police lieutenant, now a zombie, is tasked with exposing a powerful cabal of conspirators ... while also trying to track down those responsible for the death of his lover, Laura."

I am not on board with the idea of sapient zombies--and certainly not sapient zombies who are just like living people except for the being dead and eating people thing.

Magic, Mensa & Mayhem by Karina L. Fabian. "Cursed by St. George to serve the Faerie Catholic Church, dragon detective Vern now sleuths in the mundane world."

I ... what? Okay, points for creativity, but I'm not really interested in the use of dragons and faeries in this way. Truthfully, I don't much care for them at all, but a dragon detective? No, just no.

I guess I'm just old school. I want my zombies mindless, my dragons flighty, and I'd prefer not to have faeries at all.
