Of the Good
- oracne was here for Capclave. We attended panels, talked Doctor Who, ate at A Taste of Morocco, and watched DW: "Survival" (Seven) and "The Time Meddler" (One). I bought no books and only one piece of jewelry: a lanyard for my work ID.
- My ergonomic keyboard for Mac arrived Thursday and is now hooked up and I'm typing on it right now. I'm looking forward to figuring out how to assign favorites keys and stuff. Also I'm loving the wireless mouse with track wheel.
- Fashion Fair's Hidden Beauty® Foaming Facial Cleanser makes my face feel clean and the Skin Purifier makes it feel moisturized but not oily. I'm taking a break from Mary Kay foundation (because obtaining it is a pain-the "personal service" may be a plus for some but for me it's another forced interaction or rather two forced interactions). Anyway I'm wearing MAC foundation now, but I didn't feel that the Mary Kay cleanser really cleaned it off. I tried purchasing MAC cleanser but couldn't get anyone to help me at the MAC counter at Macy's, so I walked over to the Fashion Fair counter.
- Abra4me has a basic website, but a toll-free phone number and very good customer service. And I found a new brand (Elila) that fits.
- Grave Sight, the first of a new series by Charlaine Harris. Harper Connelly can find the bodies of deceased missing persons. She is also able to see the last moments of the persons life and is therefore able to confirm or deny cause of death. However, she does not investigate if murder is the cause of death. She leaves that to the police. However, in this outing she is forced to look into several connected deaths because someone is trying to harm her because she found one of the bodies.
Harris tells a good story, and I'm interested to see how this series develops. I'm not sure Harper's talent is enough to hang a series on unless she willingly begins to investigate murders rather than being forced/pulled into it. Harper is aided by her stepbrother and together they have enough angsty backstory and UST to launch a thousand shippy fanfics: her alcoholic mother married his alcoholic father and went down the tubes together; Harper and the stepbrother took care of her younger sister and their younger half-sisters until the media spotlight hit the family when the younger sister was abducted and never returned; Harper gained her ability after being struck by lightning when she was 15 and has been frightened of thunderstorms ever since; Harper becomes extremely anxious denied access to her stepbrother.
Of the Bad
- BraExperience. I placed an order over Labor Day weekend with BraExperience because I'd found their sizing chart to be extremely helpful. According to the website, everything I ordered was in stock. Other than a confirmation email I never heard from them. I emailed them after ~3 weeks and heard nothing. I called and was told part of the order would ship the following week and I would be emailed about the ETA of the rest of the order. I waited a week and a half and called again. This time I was told the delay for all of my orders was caused by the warehouse. At least this time the woman apologized and expressed surprise and dismay that I had not received any notification of this. I cancelled the order.
- Heroes. I will continue to watch in hopes that sometime soon I will once again have someone to root for, you know, a hero. Right now, I don't care about any of the storylines. Perhaps if not everyone was being painted charcoal grey, I wouldn't have this issue. Perhaps if the familial and friendly loyalties were still a large part of the show, I'd still be interested. But because everyone is currently a villain in some manner and seemingly breaking their familial ties, I just don't care at the moment. 8(
- Temperatures have dropped. I turned my heat on last night.
