oc+ comic: Israel

Dec 21, 2008 13:57

Considering how loaded current events are, this is a character who might never really appear in Hetalia.  Here's to trying to not step on too many people's toes on the way.

Nation's Name: State of Isral
Capital City: Jerusalem (Yerushalayim)
Official Language: Hebrew and Arabic
Birthday: May 14th. However, Independence Day is celebrated on a different day every year (in approximately 19 year cycles. Independence Day this year will be on the 29th of April), because it follows the Hebrew date which is the 5th of Iyar.

Name: Kobi (Ya'akov) Cohen
Height: 170 cm
Age: appears 17

A rather cobbled-together nation, recently returned from about 2000 years of wandering in his previous incarnation. To this day, Israel isn't quite sure what the connection between his old incarnation and his new one is. Some days he thinks he's a combination of a religion and a nation, some days he thinks he's just a nation, and some days he's in complete denial of his nationhood. It is all very confusing.  He used to be a British colony, but was never particularly fond of Britian.
He has a lot of problems, both inside and out, being surrounded by countries who don't particularly like him, and made up of many, many minority groups who don't always get along.

Aside from his official languages, he also speaks fluent Russian and Amharic. His European languages have gotten a bit rusty, though he is very fond of Spanish, and persists in remembering Yiddish. He likes to think he knows English, but has an atrocious accent....

Surprisingly, he's actually very laid-back. He's almost never on time, complicates things endlessly (and for no real reason), and persists in believing that things will work out in the end, one way or another. He's very warm and friendly, and usually willing to help out others, or welcome them into his house.

On the other hand, he has bipolar disorder, occasional suicidal tendencies, doesn't trust anybody and believes everybody is out to get him, and at the same time wants to be universally loved.

He's an enthusiastic soccer fan, and loves gadgets and fancy technology. He's also very fond of Chinese food and sushi, and loves traveling in India, Thailand, China, and South America.

(Un-chibi Israel, just because he's fun to draw)

In other news, a small comic concerning relations between Russia and Israel:

According to Israeli law, anybody who is Jewish has the right to become an Israeli citizen, and there is a lot of campaigning to encourage Jews to immigrate to Israel.  This concerns the immigration of the Jews from the former Soviet Union, many of whom were all too happy to immigrate once the option presented itself - some for ideological reasons, but many for economic and personal safety reasons. The Soviet countries were not immediately happy to allow their Jews to leave, though.
