Top 5 live shows this year:
1. Wire @ Lee's (3 fucking encores! Anyone who wasn't won over by the new stuff is now)
2. Nick Cave @ Kool Haus (excellent cross-section of his catalog and the best backing band I've heard in a while)
3. Johnny Flynn @ Rivoli (that a quiet British folkie showed up on here among all the other stuff I saw is a pretty big accomplishment. Best new artist I got into this year)
4. Shellac @ Horseshoe (are you a fan? Then this is everything you hoped it would be and much more. Yes, I sound like a little kid here, but you weren't there obviously)
5. Blitzen Trapper w/ Fleet Foxes @ El Mocambo (did Fleet Foxes steal the show? not quite)
Honorable mentions to Dirtbombs, King Khan and the Shrines, and Young Widows
Top 5 movies I saw this year:
1. Let The Right One In (it's more about friendship and love but it's the best vampire movie I've ever seen)
2. Wall-E
3. The Dark Knight
4. JCVD (easily the best thing Jean-Claude Van Damme will ever do. The opening action sequence fuckin SLAYS)
5. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr. - yes, he's still got it!)
Top 5 things I spent money on this year:
1. Bike (mine is the shitty one you see in the street, but it only rarely let me down)
2. Eastwood Airline (the last guitar I will ever buy, at least for necessity)
3. Lap Steel
4. Mandolin (once I master these two instruments I will make a record that fully rips off The Band and Neil Young)
5. Sneaky Dee's food (the food never dissappoints, and only once was I burned on the service)
