Just thought I'd let the Livejournal community know that last night I got my mind blown by Shellac at the Horseshoe. Expectations were high, and they more than met them. Every song I wanted to hear got played, and even a few I didn't think I wanted to hear got played and totally blew me away as well. Even the banter in between songs was great, consisting mostly of Bob Weston giving smart-ass answers to our many stupid questions (he didn't want to come back to my place and eat waffles after the show, unfortunately). It was easily the best live sound I've ever heard at the Shoe, crisp and clear but punishingly loud. They played probably an hour twenty but I could have watched another three hours if they would have played it. For a guy like me who seeing a few more of his favorites this season (Nick Cave, Wire, Hawksley Workman), that is going to be a hard show to top. Easily one of the year's best.

Oh. If you're not familiar with the music of Shellac you NEED TO BE. Shellac is one of the most creative, innovative and unclassifiable bands of the bast 15 years. Someone next to me asked his friend who wasn't too familiar with them what they sounded like and his friend, after a second of hesitation, said "great music". I can't think of a better way to describe them than that. Get down with the sound or get out of town.
