Question for: Romano
Question: Romano, I'm a 50% Sicilian girl, and although I've always been proud of my heritage, you've inspired me to take a deeper interest in it. So, what I want to know is if there's any super awesome Southern Italian-only trait or piece of my heritage that I should  definitely know about and be proud of?

Hmm... We, Southern Italians, are awesome indeed. We're usually in good mood (same goes for me, people just LIKE to piss me off) and everyone likes to greet others with a smile. We're generous and welcoming, we also like to make everyone feel at ease. We are helpful, if you decide to visit my place I'd be very happy to help such a cute girl. *smilessmiles* I also like to think that we are very charming, don't you agree?

Now... things that I think you should be proud of? Me. Our culture is very diversified. Since I was jerked around by those bastards (read: Spain, France, Turkey and others Austria) I picked a few traits from each one of them and because of this my culture is a mix of the western culture and the eastern one.

Sicily was especially influenced by that Masked Old Man, both the food and the architecture were heavily influenced by him. You can find churches, mosques, churches that were previously mosques and mosques that were previously churches (and so on ( ... )

*blushes and has slight nosebleed*

Since you're so awesome, sir, I'm sure all of Southern Italy is by default! Thanks for making us so cool!

And I do hope to visit one day. My Sicilian half of the family is always jetting off there for weddings and visits. (And no matter how often I say that I have no problem hiding in the suitcase, they always say no. Darn.)

And I know a little Siciliano, but I didn't know about the others, and I especially didn't know we have our own version of Greek! (Griko is shooting up to #1 in my 'languages to learn' list. How many people can say they know the Italian version of Greek?)

And heck yeah for Federico II di Svevia! (What WASN'T that guy king of?)

But, wait a minute! Wasn't Federico Holy Roman Empire's boss, not Germany's?(Well, he is, if you believe a certain theory...)

And so, my pride for my heritage had gone up by 400%! Thanks so much for answering my question!

Grazie!

(Also, to RP-er, thank you. ;) And to morwen2 as well!)
