Oh, Russia knows how I feel. As if it wasn't bad enough that the Olympics committee allowed that commie to hold the games in the first place, he went and invaded Afghanistan just last year. The way he keeps pulling shit like that, it's like he wants to start World War III. I'm boycotting the games, just like I said I would if he didn't get his troops out of Afghanistan, and lots of other nations agree with me. I know that it sucks for the athletes to spend so much time preparing just to not be able to compete, so I'm holding my own games in Philadelphia, which any of the other boycotting nations are welcome to attend.

It's the first time I'm participating in the Olympics after my unification... and for it to be in Moscow...! I think it's wonderful~. I'm so excited for Russia. ♥

Mmn, but I can't say that I'm not a little disappointed with the global community. The Olympics are an opportunity for athletes from different nations to compete in the global community and to strive for excellence while representing their countries... I mean, the games have always brought people together in peace, right? It's about being able to come together--not the us vs. them mentality that some other nations make this out to be--and have a friendly competition. And the boycotts? Well, that's unfortunate but I appreciate not having as much competition... means that I might be able to win something!

As chance would have it, the Soviet Union and the United States were the only two nations to bid; the decision was made to afford the honor to Moscow at the International Olympic Committee Session in Vienna six years prior. If tensions were high then, the events which have transpired since have only served to raise the stakes. Though I have chosen to participate, there is considerable dissension among my people. The federation of equestrian sports declined to participate; however, Elisabeth Theurer has elected to compete in spite of the boycott.

I understand the rationale, likely more so than most given my experience with the Soviet Union; however, is a shame the spirit of the Olympics has fallen victim to international politics.
