Yeah, so I just kind of realized that I'm not really going to have had any break between the end of last semester and the beginning of this one. I'm pretty tired on the whole, what with translating and helping in the OR every day here and then we go out at night and they try to make me drink... We get back at like 10 and I just go to bed. Of course we're getting up at like 6.
This summer I've had plenty of time to think about my life. I think that I can finally step back from my relationship life and my forward motivation and calm down at least a tiny bit. I've made some mistakes and hurt some people, which made me hurt, scrutinize, and agonize what had happened, but I think with my friends I'll be okay. I might post more details on this, but I want to confide in someone before I start jabbering about it.
I'm enjoying Nicaragua a lot, despite being tired. It's great to see my dad work and all the people that are so excited to see him work or have him help them. The other doctors that came with him are great and the staff at the hospital here are so nice. There is another translator that comes to help, but outside of him, I'm the only other translator, so I do actually get called on a lot. Granted, I'm usually in one OR and he's in the other and when I randomly end up in the other OR, the doctors in there want me to explain words like "notch" in Spanish... No, but we all get along and make jokes and it's so much fun.
Megan was wondering about my adventures in Sweden, namely hanging out with Dain. Seeing Dain in Sweden was awesome. We hung out for pretty much an entire day. Jer and I got breakfast in the morning and wandered about until about 1 when we met Dain in downtown Stockholm next to this really cool fountain they have there. I wanted to see Dain's place and school, so we headed that direction. Dain has a nice little place with a shared kitchen that's pretty close to his school by subway. I got to see his overalls and his cape! He is going to be one of the cooler older students that does crazy stuff to the new students. They aren't allowed to see him the entire first two weeks without the cape or his special hat and sunglasses. It makes me wish I could go to his school. Then we headed to his school and I got to meet Pauline for the first time, his girlfriend. He showed us some of the school which has such nice and cool stuff. He and Pauline are on the cover of the school's little magazine that has some puzzles and such in it. They are quite cute together.
After visiting the school Dain and Jer and I left Pauline to study and visited the Vasa Museum. The Vasa is a ship that was a little messed up because the king had wanted two cannon decks and then proportions got screwy and it sank on its maiden voyage before it even got far enough away from land for people to not be able to watch. Aside from the fact that it seemed kind of funny that they devoted a museum to a ship that sank by accident, it was pretty cool to see the ship. They have the entire thing inside the museum and it's huge. How many times in your life do you get to see an actual olden day ship? Not many.
The museum closed at 6 so we met Pauline shortly thereafter and found ourselves a nice little pizza place to eat at. It was quite delicious. From the pizza place we could see the Globe, so after dinner we walked across a huge bridge to go see it. Apparently it is part of a scale representation of our solar system where it is the sun. Sweden has the largest scale represetation of our solar system, folks; I think that's pretty damn cool. The sunset was really pretty, as it was every night we were there. But then it was a little darker than daytime. We headed back toward dowtown and found ourselves a cafe that was still open and sat around and chatted. It was a lovely close to a great day.
Now it's nearly dinner time and tonight we are supposed to party. Everyone is going to be there! It should be fun.
