Structure and History of English

Dear Mrs. G.,

You are a horrible teacher who doesn't give examples, rushes through stuff and doesn't give me enough examples to practice on. If you want me to transcribe in different accents, that's okay with me but I expect you to give me something to practice this on and one word along with "British English uses diphtongs and American English uses r-coloring" is NOT enough.

Also, it makes a lot of sense that your favorite phonologist is Ladefoget because that man can't explain anything either. He just takes it for granted that you know what he's talking about which may be great for you but not so much for you.

Keyser & Clements makes no sense at all. Why didn't you teach us the very useful sonority hierarchy instead of a pointless inferior syllabification method that you spent much more time with than the regular one everyone else uses?! Because we need a crappy syllabification method but we don't need to know the rule as to how syllables are put together (sonority hierarchy) because saying "xy is a shitty beginning for a syllable"). Very scientific.

This is why I love linguistics (which is explained very well) and hate SHE even though we do basically the same thing.
