A machine is safe to the extent of its controller so it is not the machine itself that is the problem it is the way it is implemented and the thing which is in command of it. I think robots could be designed with a friendly interface and be operated in a manner that is safe, I agree artificially intelligent robots may not be able to act on intuition but in the case I suggested they shouldn’t have to be people friendly- I’m not suggesting they be mean, or act on feelings. For example if used in some special task force it would be instructed to take out specific targets, like when a missile is fired the situation is assessed before and its target is specified by a human all it needs to do is find its way to the target. If security robots are implemented in this simplistic way I believe they could be used efficiently and safely. However in the case of security robots taking the place of all security personnel, the robot assessing the situation, choosing its target, dealing with our unpredictability, and interacting with us is too complex and therefore too risky so under those circumstances I agree with you.
