Best Pennsic yet, methinks. I got out of camp, went to many classes, only slept through one (maybe two). Bought plenty of crafty stuff to work on. New car top carrier worked extremely well. Our new tent was excellent. Big, tall, roomy enough for shelves, clothes rack, chair. I could stand up in it. Weather was excellent. Got to know Mead Hovel a bit better, and drank some good mead and vodka. I was happier than I had been for weeks previous.
Big events are three fold, though.
Looks like I'm the new Land Agent for Scholar's Way. Unless Will really contests. I've got the vacation time, most of the organizational skills, the management ability to handle camp. Just hope I can handle the rest of the Agents. Good times?
I found they wanted surveyors to help out. Turns out it wasn't just a little job...they want to resurvey and remap all of Pennsic. And I get to be middle management on that one. Could be fun. IF i can borrow equipment from work, shouldn't be too hard, either. At least I'll get to see a side of Pennsic not many others see--the completely barren camp land!
We got invited to a bardic night over in Iron Wolf. I took my bodhran (sp?) played a little and poorly and quietly. Master John ap Wynne, the head bard (Laureled for being a bard, i think) comes by, tells me to keep on playing, and stop by his merchant tent sometime to play a little more. So I do. A few hours there, very good times. Played my bodhran more this Pennsic than any time since i bought it, four years ago. Tried a lot of things out to see how they sound.
Found they were closing down Friday night, and I wound up helping Master John, his wife and their merchant household brothers and sisters (i think that's how it worked out...) pack everything up. Really enjoyed pitching in, and they fed me. Got back to camp 5 hours later, Mel wanted to send a search party for me. John said to keep on working with the drum and to come back and play with him next year! Quite exciting.
Now that I got really involved, I can only hope that means Next Pennsic will be even better. Hope.
And to top that off, I got a wacky and wonderful Idea for my heraldry.
