On Running: Post Marathon

Nov 02, 2012 00:30

Well, it finally happened; I ran my first full marathon.

The race went really well, and I hit all of my goals.  I did not stop or walk, and I finished in under four hours (3:57:16).  I even managed to place third in my age group and was 17/94 overall, which is much better than I expected.  It was a very emotional experience for me and something I will never forget.

I felt really good throughout the race.  The course was nice, and the weather was cool.  I ingested GU three times throughout the course, and drank water at about half the aid stations.  Thankfully, I did not experience any problems with my body along the course.  I was actually surprised at how good I felt afterwards, experiencing only minor soreness in my quads and knees for a couple days.  Four days after the marathon, I went for a run and felt 100%.

I am happy to have done this and really feel like I accomplished something great.  The human body is born to run, and I just did my part.  I am pleased.
