On Running: Recent Accomplishments and Interesting Races

Aug 20, 2011 02:19

One of the things I enjoy about running so many races is the sheer diversity they offer. There are obvious differences in things like road races and trail runs, but I also really enjoy the novelty aspects of some races like obstacle courses races, mud runs, and team races. Different ways to not only push yourself, but to also have fun and experience life from different angles while doing so.

Anyways, here are a few of my "Endurance Athlete Lite" accomplishments so far this summer:

- Shaved almost three minutes off of my previous 5K Race PR. This is especially meaningful to me, as it lets me know that I am better at running now that I was prior to my car accident.

- Competed in the 5K Men's Open 2011 Joggling World Championships, in Rochester, MN. This is the sport of juggling while running competitively. I did not place very high, but I was just happy to have been able to run the whole thing. This is also noteworthy because it is probably the only instance where I will be able to say that I was a competitor in a world championship sporting event, hahaha.

- Competed in a teams mud run. 4.5 miles each running through swamp, over steep hills, and splashing in deep mudpits. Very messy, but very primal feeling.

- Ran my first 10K. No stops, finished in under an hour.

- Ran two unrelated 5K races in one day, one in the morning, another at night. Broke my PR in the morning, then again at night. Also won 2nd and 3nd place divisional metals respectively.

Currently, I am training for a half marathon race coming up next month. I hope it goes well...
