we just had two parties, one last weekend, one this. last week, there was some socialness, starting slow, a little awkward, but then spinning into engaging valuable discussions about art, in a big circle with everybody that was there. this week, there were several smaller groups, talking about art in general, but with slightly more jokes, booze and disparate and general topics. there's a feeling of apology for going off on "rants" about artsy, political, social change things that stop the conversation at a "party," then engaging everybody on this single focused thing. with more than ten or so people, a single conversation seems like far too few to be going on at once, seems too academic, or so it seems. last week, there was that large scale focus, engagement and discussion on specific art pieces, and then general things about people and things. but it was always sort of conducted like a discussion class with not necessarily a single moderator, but with wine and food and interesting music. the two weekends feel dramatically different, and i think i like the earlier much better, but i don't know why that's harder to bring about.
