It's been a while

Ok, I’ll succumb to peer pressure and go for a personal entry now.

Gosh, where do I even begin?  My last entry was about the Journalism dinner.  Well, the last week of school was incredible.  Just a lot of nice things were done and said.  I’m not a huge fan of it; however, trips down memory lane and sentimentality can be kinda fun if the time is appropriate.  One thing that sticks out in my mind: the Senior Dinner.  I hung out with the people really from my past.  Kim, Jen F, Becky, Cindy, Dan M, and of course DD and I stuck together the entire time.  But I said hi to a lot of people that I don’t get to spend a lot of time with, like Cassie and Jen S.  Also, that night when we began to sign yearbooks toward the end of the night, I had a lot of trouble with that.  It’s just like: what do you possibly say to people you’ve grown up with upon your departure?  The conclusion of HS was basically an emotional train wreck.

At the Awards Assembly I was awarded a $1,000 merit scholarship from the PLHS Alumni Assoc. and I also won the Graduation Program Cover Photo Contest!  Oddly enough, I think I was more excited about winning the photo contest.  Either way, it was nice to be recognized for my work.

Graduation.  Aside from closing night of Guys and Dolls, it was the best night of my life.  In life, or rather my life, it is rare that things are “perfect.”  If you think about it, very few things are.  But if anything was “perfect,” graduation was.  We simply could not have had nicer weather.  The view from the top of the bleachers was one of the most spectacular that my eyes have ever witnessed.  The speeches, well, hahahahaha!  “Valedictorian” and “Salutatorian’s” were as forgettable as usual.  Michele’s speech, however…wow.  I was so proud of her.  Her speech was a home run!  She cried during it.  It kinda felt like something you’d see in a movie, just because it was so perfect for her to cry.  However, it was not forced…it was as genuine as can be, and I can attest to that knowing Michele the way that I do.  She even made me tear (what a surprise).  One (of many) things she said that sticks out in my mind, “Nice guys do not finish last.”

Project Graduation was fun.  Nothing much to say except it was a blast.  DD and I spent the entire time together.  Best memory of the night: while Kevin was hypnotized, the hypnotist told the group that they were in a horse race and the louder they screamed for their horse, the faster they would race.  Well, all Kevin did was scream at the top of his lungs with his face beet red and the veins protruding out of his throat, “MOTHER FUCKER!  GO MOTHER FUCKER!”

I threw a surprise birthday party for Amanda.  That was wonderful.  She was so happy and so surprised.  That’s why I did it, I wanted her to be happy, and she was!  All our really close friends were there and it was a night I’ll never forget.  Oh, and Ken pretended to hijack our car on the way home.  He scared me half to death, probably the most scared I’ve ever been in my life.  Thanks bud.  (It’s ok).

Did Orientation at Temple.  Rocked my placement exams.  Placed out of English, placed into the highest level of Spanish, and didn’t flunk the math.  Got my schedule, have two Journalism classes, which is rare for a frosh to have.  Made friends.  That’s good.  Kinda need those at college.

Went on vacation to Hawaii and Japan for two weeks.  Incredible trip.  Hawaii was absolutely beautiful.  Spent an entire day on the beach and got the second worst sunburn of my life (the first happened Sophomore year).  Japan was beautiful too.  Basically every sight you see is more beautiful than the next, of course, you have to appreciate that kind of architecture.  I made two friends while I was there.  They were on my tour.  Alex is from Hawaii and Cam from Long Island.  They’re both my age and we’re all going to college in Pennsylvania!  Well, we couldn’t have been closer.  We made so many incredible memories together.  Best ones were singing karaoke for 4+hours, eating at the conveyer belt sushi restaurant, going to see Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and setting off fireworks by the river.  I miss them so much already, but we’re already making plans for college.

My birthday was two days ago.  Had the biggest surprise I’ve ever had.  My mom bought me a CAR!!!  It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen.  It’s brand new VW Beetle in slate gray.  I couldn’t possibly love it more.  It’s my baby.  I was just so surprised that my mom would get me something so special.  I mean, hey, a car’s a big deal!  I just couldn’t (can’t) stop thanking her.  In your face, Dad!

Last night I had a really great night with Amanda.  We went with Kristen to go see The Village, which was a waste of time.  But the three of us still had fun.  Then we went back to her house to watch the original The Manchurian Candidate (let’s hear it for Frank Sinatra) with her parents.  The remake is ok, really nothing wrong with it.  It’s just that the original is so much better.  Her parents gave me a gift card to Blockbuster (which was so nice of them).  Amanda gave me a really sweet card and a fantastic hand drawing/poster of Frank Sinatra (he look so damn cool in it).  She really knows what I like.  She has something else to give me, but she says she has to wait until DD gets back from the shore to give it to me.

I leave for Temple on August 27.  Things are really rough for me now.  Everything just seems like a countdown and every single plan that is mentioned is followed by, “because we only have until August 27.”  It feels like a death countdown.  It doesn’t even seem real to me.

Anyway, that’s about it.  I work Monday through Thursday and do things at night.  Hope this is a good enough entry.  And holy shit, what an unoriginal way to end this!

PS:  I would post a picture of my car, but I don't know how.  Help?
