Life@SGH

It’s been a long time since I last blogged. Just really wasn’t in the mood to write, or maybe just plain lazy for that matter. But given how I’ve had people comment on my lack of blogging activity, I thought I’d start tapping away at the keyboard to come up with this long awaited entry.

It’s been about a week and a half since I started work at SGH. Lucky me gets an nice, new office environment in one of the newly renovated blocks :D But cuz it’s centrally air-conditioned, I can’t just pick up the remote unlike how I used to, and turn the temperature up or down at my fancy L It IS freezing cold here most of the time. My cubicle’s right in front of the copier and printer, so the sucky thing is that everyone who comes by to use it can read off my screen L I think I need to go get one of those screen covers (the type that blackens the screen such that it makes it hard for ppl to see what’s on it).

As for my colleagues - the department is made up of 16 people (in SACA, the entire organisation comprised 16 ppl). SGH employs over 5,000 staff! There are 2 males and the rest females. I suspected the cute guy was gay (cuz I noticed his rather fancy document bag which is atypical of what straight men would carry), and my source has confirmed this :X As for the other dude, found out through snooping around Facebook that he is the uncle of the facialist that I used to go to. Sheesh. Singapore is just waaaay too small :S As for the other chicas, they are mostly married but still very youthful looking and trendy. It’s literally a corporate fashion parade here on a daily basis. Am stressed, given how I slacked off dressing up at SACA. Great…now I have a valid excuse to go shopping. Heh. Oh, and these people love to eat. They are forever buying yummies to share. I’ve had the pleasure of sampling yummy strawberry cheesecake, chocolate chip cookies and for breakfast this morning - koo chye kueh! :D

Working for a big organisation sure has its perks. I get a staff discount at all the in-house shops, pharmacies, cafeterias, etc. There’s also a staff gym (which I don’t utilise as I go to Planet at Parkway), dance and fitness lessons one can sign up for, Giordano Warehouse sale at the Staff Lounge (yesterday & today), chalet reimbursement, etc. This place is quite the happening. Oh, and I also found out that I can get my flu vaccination FOC at the Staff Clinic (Goody! Cuz Daddy wants me to get vaccinated before I leave for the USA).

Work wise, I’m beginning to realise how haphazardly I was doing media relations in SACA. There are so many more processes to it. Am pretty sure the work experience I will gain here, will indeed put me in better stead to continue my pursuit of a career in public relations. Been reading a lot and familiarising myself with the hospital staff, the processes, the clinical specialities, etc. One gripe though - where are the young, cute doctors?? Everytime I do a search on the internal staff directory, it always yields an older, not-so-good-looking doc L

Anyway, that about sums up my experience thus far. Cheers to me, the quack doctor in training :P
