Tower Week: Nearly Completed...

Jun 02, 2005 18:59

Today is Thursday, and I am basically done with week two: Tower Week here at the U.S. Army Airborne School. This week was, for the most part, easy. Nearly everything that we did was a rehash on last week's training but with a bit added to it. We learned how to conduct mass exits out of an aircraft using the 34 foot tower again, and we also practiced PLFs (Parachute Landing Falls) from the SLT (Swing Landing Trainer) which is a 12 foot suspension harness that drops to the ground in different directions and you have to orient your body into the proper position so you can successfully land on the ground without hurting yourself. I expected these to be rather painful but they ended up being far easier than I thought. All of the training that was conducted this week will be put to the test in the next and final week: Jump Week. I will be making my first jump out of an aircraft sometime on Monday morning.

After going through all of the training, and handling all of it very well based on the the grades I received on the different events and appratuses, I am more than confident in my ability to jump out of a plan and land safely on the ground. I'm a bit nervous...but who wouldn't be? As long as I keep my feet and knees together and remember my training, I'll do just fine. I can only imagine the rush that I'm going to get from this, and I know that I probably won't even be able to express it in concise words, but I'll try like hell after I make my first jump.

Tomorrow's training consists of classroom instruction and who knows what else. After that it's the weekend and I'll be around online for the majority of it. In just a little over a week now, I'll be home for the summer and I can't wait. I'm getting anxious to start working at Quality (shudder) so I can make some money. I'm also looking forward to spending time with my family and going to see people from SBU when I'm off from work.

That's all for now, I just had the opportunity to update today, and I figured that I would take advantage of it.
