Today Todd came down to Nashville and we went over to Midsouth Ceramic and I was wanting a new kiln since I got a electric kiln that will works but it is too small. I was given the kiln and was grateful for the gift but I can only fit two or three at the most in each load if they are small and one if it is large. I was only going to check and see what they had in stock and what kind of prices that they had but Todd pushed me to take my checkbook just in case. He is really good at getting deals so I thought what the hell. I found a Naberthurm which was an electric but it was much larger than the one I have. So I thought whats the harm in asking about a gas since that is what I really want. Tammy and I haggled over a few prices and bam I have a new Olympic gas kiln on the way. It will be here in ten to fourteen days. I still am in shock I didn't think that I would get the kiln that I wanted for so little. Midsouth is covering the shipping, tax and she tossed in two shelves for the price of one! Plus she sold the kiln to me at the same price as Axner in Florida which was the cheapest in the nation at the time!
So I now have three problems to deal with first I ordered the kiln for propane gas but I have natural gas, I know that this was not the best thing to do but I wanted to be able to move the kiln if I have to so I have to have a propane tank installed and filled. The second problem is that I have to have a kiln building built. I was going to put the electric in the house or art center but gas kilns and my house doesn't mix. The third is how to use cones in the kiln I have only fired gas raku, a Bailey down draft and wood fire. I am not sure how to check the cones in the kiln I ordered because the spy ports are not as large as in the bailey and the raku kiln I used I could look in at a angle to see the cone packs. I ask Tammy and she said that It should not be hard to see them but when the kiln is at cone ten and the flame is shooting out the ports I don't want my face that close to the fire. I think that I might get a pyrometer with two thermocouples to watch the kiln. I guess that I will have to figure it out before the kiln comes. I hope that it will be in after Todd gets back from Texas so I have help to move the kiln. He said that he will build the shed if I get the pad poured so I better start looking for a concrete contractor to pour the pad. The plan for tomorrow is to figure what the hell to do first. I think that I am going to bed early because my foot is killing me today
