Addendum to last night's update about Fire on High: I've continued hacking on the software today. Here are the things that now work that didn't yesterday:
- Warp drive/interstellar navigation
- Voice of the computer (about 50% of the way there)
- One of the major cutscenes. This one makes another of the cutscenes real easy to knock out, and puts us at a total of 3 out of 7 (with one of those remaining 4 being the really easy one).
The only other thing left to do from where I sit, besides finishing the voicework and the cutscenes, is getting planets working, which I think is a relatively easy thing compared to a lot of the other special effects in the game. I'm feeling pretty optimistic all of a sudden!
A note for anyone interested in the software that powers this game: I keep all my work in a publicly readable Subversion repository. You can see it at
http://svn.aegames.org/svn/foh/FireEngine. (Warning: heading up one directory to 'foh' does work, but it will reveal all kinds of game spoilers. You probably don't want to go there.) FireEngine is released under the GNU General Public License version 2 or later.
