Bus stop boy

Mar 24, 2009 15:59

After my impromptu speaking gig in Josh's Human Sexuality class yesterday, I headed towards the union bus stop. I plopped down on a tiny hill near the bus stop and pulled out my knitting. This young (maybe 20) man sat down next to me but not before asking if this hill was reserved for "knitters only." I laughed, replied that it wasn't and he joined me on the small piece of grass.

Then he talked to me; the whole 15 minute wait for the bus and almost the entire way home. It was so strange. I mean, I've always been the good listener/easy to talk to person among my friends but I guess this has somehow translated into strangers at bus stops wanting to chat. He was nice and seemed genuinely interested in my answers about what I was knitting, whyI was studying at IU, my plans for sexuality studies in the future, etc.

For a minute, I thought maybe he was flirting but I slowly realized he probably noticed the giant rainbow ALLY button on my backpack which identified me as someone who wouldn't  mind chatting with an adorable queer boy. Either way, it was refreshing to meet a funny, interesting now-less-than-a-stranger who wanted to know about me, who thought I was interesting.
