Do you find more acceptable if someone does not write a review if they have read your story/chapter/drabble but disliked very specific aspects of your writing ( Read more... )

Hi southern,

I am sorry, but from the warnings I would expect parody of the challenge, not of badly written fics. There might be a problem that I am not native english speaker, so I don't understand some things as they are meant, but just as they are written. Off characterization and OOC for me doesn't mean really totally different character as in cannon, but changes in their personalities which would enable them to communicate in ways I would want them (like Severus being nice to his own children) but which still would be the characters themselves, not somebody else. If this is what that is supposed to mean, then I just learned a new thing.

I almost started to read the fic in question. I love some kinds of parody, I like Marriage Law fics and I like your works. The summary didn't warn me at all, the disclaimers I never read (as there is always the same - I understand they are needed for property rights, but that don't mean I have to read them), so I jumped right to the first paragraph... And then I realized it is probably the fic in question, looked at the reviews, had to especially look for Nata's review and that confirmed my suspicion. Then I read the AN, then I read your LJ rant and that made me realize I wouldn't like it also. I am sure that if I hadn't read this LJ first, I would be quite disappointed.
There are sometimes not enough proper warnings. Especially if they are not placed somewhere really visible (and just below disclaimer is the place where you put thing you don't really want people to read). Sorry to say that.

And I am really looking forward to reading some non-Mr.-Bean-type parody from you.

Fair enough. One can only do so much. Parody in the title should be a give away, and then the author's notes before the text (not the disclaimer), and the OOC / parody warnings should have helped. If people choose not to read something that says author's notes, then I don't believe that's the author's fault. I do choose to read any notes while also bypassing disclaimers. Just in case. I don't like to get pulled into something I wouldn't care for.

It is a parody of the challenge (all the MLC fics follow the same format per the challenge rules and nearly all of them are good [yet not if you know what I mean].

OOC means plainly out of character (not acting like themselves, however portrayed). :) Language barriers do pose a problem sometimes, huh?

Actually, I do have a non Mr Bean type parody. It's called "Like Sands Through the Hourglass." What happens there is Snape and Hermione find a badly written story about themselves and read it, commenting. It's kind of fun as well. I just get a kick out of those types.

And even so, I don't mind that she / you / whomever didn't like the story, and I wasn't angry about that. :)

If Snape is not a coward, I am. Most certainly, I reacted as a complete coward upon receiving email alerts of this discussion in my LJ. It's been nearly two months I've been fighting this ostrich-in-sand behaviour of mine. The email alerts are unread to this day (just the subject warned me enough to ignore it through piling guilt) and despite reading other people's journals, I avoided my own. Enough.

This LJ post was meant as a general rant. Your story was most certainly not the only one of this kind, but it has been the final straw. I'm sorry, saschia made the connection and felt inclined to say so. It was not my intention.

"Like Sands Through the Hourglass" are one of my favourite stories and likely the best parody I've read. Consequently, another parody from the same author was eagerly welcome and brought surmounting disappointment.

This is the second time we "crossed swords" over reviews. I loose. I concede. I stopped reviewing. The authors put so much energy, effort and soul into their stories that just reading without feedback have felt indecent over the last two months. Yet, I can be a passive reader apparently. I don't want to fight you, I respect you too much for that. And since my reviews hurt one of the people who are instrumental for fanfic community, I step down and leave the field for you.
