Editing, the nata style

Aug 11, 2011 13:23

A week before the SSHG Exchange deadline, I finished writing my story. Yet, I asked for an extension that was generously given by the wonderful, amazing mods.

What did I do to the story over the last three weeks?

88% of all words remained.

12% of the story was either deleted completely or replaced with more suitable text.

New text that appeared first in the edited version represented 49% of the length of the finished first draft.

The version that hopes for final approval from my beta has 136% word length of the original.

When I compared the two documents, I loved two paragraphs. One was six lines long, and the only words that remained untouched in it were 'I thought'. The other was five lines long and retained 'managed to'. They pretty much sum up what editing means for me and how truly crappy my first versions are.

Now I hope the story would fit my giftee and she would like it at least a little bit.
