It's been a big day for Australia.
Designer boy and I sat and listened transfixed as our elected leader spoke. I believe this is the first time in my memory that I have ever heard/seen an election promise kept by an Australian politician. It was electrifying, inspiring and I really do think Australia has made the right choice in this man and his team. They are getting things done, good things, practical things - it's not just rhetoric and pretty speeches. We also listened to his opposition counterpart speak. He had some good points but shouldn't have tried to justify the previous governments actions, I believe it detracted from what he was trying to say (even though I felt bad for him when the crowd was trying to drown out his speech - although I don't blame them, they're very angry about the previous governments inaction/actions). We were so entranced by what was coming out of the speakers that we didn't notice that my boss hadn't turned up. Apparently he couldn't tear himself away from the radio when the speeches were on. He said that people were pulling over on the road to listen. The phone didn't ring at all. I believe almost all of Australia listened. I can remember my parents being shocked to find out when we first emigrated in 1973 that aboriginals weren't able to vote until a few years earlier. I am very happy for the indigenous people. It's been a long time coming!
Other news: Bonnies is up on the Haven web site and she's as cute and adorable as I remember! She and her little boy are still looking for a good home, so if you know anyone who wants a great little cat, send them here!
http://users.ssc.net.au/ingridshaven/catstrial.htmLast but definitely not least, tomorrow night is the 2nd annual anti Valentines Day dinner for singles (of all genders) and those love up couples who simply don't want to buy into the commercialism that is VD! Dinner is at the usual spot on Victoria Street at 6.30pm for yummy Peking Duck or other Asian food delights including vegetarian options. We will be downstairs (for those who recently dealt with the upstairs sound levels!) BYO if you wish (recommended, their house wine isn't great). Please RSVP now or you miss out on duck!
