Hi. Life is going well, just thought i'd do a quick 'updatey' thing. I'm in my 6th week of my course and i think i'm doing fine. I've been teaching whole periods and covering some sixth-form lessons on my own whilst the teacher is away on a cool battlefields trip which polly and i were hoping we'd be invited to go on, but we weren't. At upper school i missed out on all the history trips as my form tutor was disorganised and he never gave out the permission forms early enough, so we only got them after the deadline to hand them in had been and gone. I'm going to be a super-organised tutor with my class next year, and will ALWAYS give out the forms early so everyone can get to go. Apparently that is one of the criticisms of the course, that we don't get taught how to be a tutor but will inevitably be given a tutor group next year - what do we do with them? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Apparently in PSHE time now i've got to teach sex education as well as bullying and the usual 'be good, be healthy, don't go to mcdonalds (see 'supersize me') kind of stuff' which should be interesting. What shall i say to the poor little kiddies? "Having sex doesn't make you an adult. But it might make you a baby" sort of stuff? Or do i be honest and say 'you're all going to go out and do it no matter what i say, so just make sure you use precautions and all will be dandy'? What d'y'reckon?? Any suggestions? I don't know enougb scientific biology stuff to go through what happens (to your body) when you have sex, so all in all i hope i just don't have to teach it. And if i do, maybe i'll use puppets. Puppets are fun. The counting king puppet was used for early years maths in my primary school experience, so perhaps i could borrow him and find a literary queen for him to do his business with, hey. I'll have a practice at home, and if i can teach sex education as i would to the kids with paul, and not have him laugh at me, i'll know it will be ok.
Sooo...what else has been happening? We went to see 'shark tale'. I can tell in the cinema when paul is getting bored because he doesn't mind me talking during the film and kisses me lots, whereas in films he likes like kill bill and battle royale, we have to be silent and just watch the film. I distinctly remember him being really bored in 'sylvia': mmmmm....
We went to see the footlights comedy revue, which was really funny. I liked the bit where the guy talked about how he'd fallen in love with an 86 yr old woman whose body reminded him of a 'twix...all melting' and the one about the amateur singers who didn't realise that the pair they'd invited was two blokes. The husband's face was hilarious, and so realistic. They take normal situations and show how funny they really are, and mix them in with surreal situations to keep up the flow of comedy, which i really enjoyed. It was nice to see suzy and emma again, who i hadn't seen since the beginning of summer either. I'm looking forward to emma, giles and junaid's new house party this thursday as well. Should be good fun.
Right, i forgot to turn the oven on for paul's dinner so am in trouble. Better go do it. Bye for now. xx
