We used to be friends, a long time ago we used to be friends
Was high school really like that? Was it really that crazy place where you were friends with someone one day and hated them the next, then dated them a year later? Were there really crazy parties where everyone got drunk and had sex? Were there really all of the terrible cliques of the cheerleaders, the jocks, the rich kids, the computer geeks- etc... It's always like that on TV, but it was never like that for me, or for many people I know. Did it all really go down like that in some people's eyes and I just missed it because it was busy doing other things?
Now that I'm older I wish I could do some of the things that TV says always happened in high school. I wish there were 80's themed dances that all of my friends would want to go to with me, where I didn't have to do any of the planning, set up, and take down, where it would just be about having fun, but it would all be over by 11 so I could get to bed at a decent hour, where I wouldn't have to worry about the weirdo's in the bar, because I would know them all from biology class, or english, or the football team.
Then again, maybe I don't wish for that. Maybe I'm happy sitting at home on a Saturday, enjoying the fun dvd's that you can borrow from the library, and eating food that you didn't know you had, and doing a 30 minute workout that was OnDemand, and laughing with your sister over silly things. Maybe that life really isn't so bad.
