I brought my old pipe out this weekend. Mainly because I'd missed it, and partly because it kept my cigarette smoking down a bit.
Every pipe smoker has usually experienced this, but while smoking just about everyone will comment on how good it smells. Even the most anti-smoking nazis out there will sit and comment on how much they enjoy the smell, with nary a peep about the effects of smoking or secondhand smoke or whatever. So we have to ask the question, are people really offended by the concept of smoking or is it simply that they find the aroma of cigarette smoke unpleasurable.
"This above all, to thine ownself be true." Lets look at this for a minute. How many Republican representatives who spend their time railing against the 'nanny state' and for lack of oversight for individual businesses, voted for the workplace smoking ban. Effectively instituting another area of a nanny state and taking away control from businesses. The problem seems to be as much hypocrisy as the fact that most people lack the ability to be honest with themselves. Nobody wants to believe that they're shallow. We all want to believe that we're somehow better people than that. But when it comes right down to it, it's all about the personal momentary displeasure of non-smokers experiencing cigarette smoke. Non-smokers are generally just as bad as smokers. They couldn't care less about something that maybe, might kill them in another 20 years. But, damn if it smells bad now that's a problem.
