On Tuesday I went downtown while waiting for the end of my mother's speech therapy session. Sat in the sun in front of the Cathedral just when two guys began playing street music!
I knew one of them, whom I had heard play the baroque guitar - but here, he had a very special instrument that was made especially for him, a combination of guitar and celtic harp. His colleague played the nickelharpa, a swedish medieval instrument. What they were playing was part traditional celtic music, part original compositions with celtic influences and part baroque. And everything in it was great! So I bought their CDs, and sketched them quickly while they played.
So, here they are :
James Kline with the guitar-thingie and Mariusz Radwanski with the nyckelharpa. Hum. They do look like this! Which is the only value of this sketch. Drawn too quickly with a ballpoint pen...
And here's a sample of their music so that you can share this moment with me.
The Alchemist's Dance, original composition by James Kline.
Here's
an article about James Kline's arch harp guitar,
And
here's their website (hum, not quite up to date...)
Also, I offered myself a one-day train travel to Paris for my birthday. I'm going tomorrow, because there's a Robin Hobb Q and A and book signing and she's one of my favourite authors (and also a very charming person when communicating by email). And I'll get a day off, yay!
