I thought I'd have enough with the weekend to finish this one, but I had forgotten how mentally tiring university can get.
So I used the whole of last Saturday to recover from one week trying to resolve problems that I had left at the end of july, knowing that everything will have to work in two weeks... Everything being the three first years of Geography, concerning around 500 students and thirty various brands of teachers/professors/lecturers whatever it's called in English, and taking place in a university that is either unfinished or crumbling down at the moment, and anyway was constructed for 9000 students while there are currently 20 000. Plus all of the lectures I should remake or just make, and of course, among them, things of which I don't know the first word and aren't at all my specialty. Plus all the research I should do and don't. Plus the september exams to grade. Plus the five (and maybe more?) master students to supervise.
You know what? I'm beginning to dream about it at night, and I'm panicking. Just a bit. But I'm panicking. Because I remember how I ended being last Christmas, so tired that I hated everyone and everything, including students and most of all colleagues. And I'll have more teaching hours this year, and the friend who helped me with organising everything is on sabbatical... And well, I'm beginning to have fantasies of being ill, and these are good fantasies.
So if I leave stranger comments than usual in your LJ, if I'm suddenly surrealist or seem less friendly or just plain aggressive (though I'll try to refrain myself!), please try to excuse me. This is just my uni self surfacing. Sorry! (and help!)
Anyway, the current drawing is one of Sirius as a dog, escaping from Azkaban. I was wondering what I could make specifically for
hp_details, and what could be better than both a building and a magical animal, sort of?
And did I tell you how happy I am that such a community exists? Because what, on the beginning, hooked us to Harry Potter? I know that for me, it was the fantasy universe that felt so close to ours, and yet so full of marvellous things, and that, as every good fantasy world, felt so much wider than just what JKR gave us to see. So many beasts, and marvellous rooms and buildings, and places that looks like ours, almost, and spells, and even a government... These things often lack in the fandom, which focuses on characters and romance, and often uses magic as nothing more than a tool.
And
hp_details, which concerns so much more than just details, is what we fanartist needed to get out of our usual characters drawings, and challenge ourselves to do more magical, complex (and often difficult) pictures. Who wouldn't love to see the kitchens of Hogwarts illustrated, with all the House Elves? Or the wonderful mess that must have been the Marauders' dormitory? And Erumpents? And Hagrid's hut, and all the creatures populating the Forbidden Forest? Even Aragog (who was just illustrated in the comm, by the way).
Well, meanwhile, have an Azkaban with a dog :) I stopped on the inking phase, and as I don't feel ready to make the sky and the sea with ink, the rest will be made in watercolour. So have a look at the WIP before I ruin it! This sea really frightens me, I never painted one...
Preview:
This drawing will go directly to the comm when it's finished, and afterwards I hope to incorporate it in a more complex project (half illustrated text, half comic), but I really don't know if I'll have the time to complete it... Nor if I have the skill. Ah, well. We'll see.
