Ok so this is for all of you who still read my/other people's lj...some people posted this on Myspace and I thought it was pretty cool:
I'm interested to know what albums have either changed your outlook on life or just changed your musical tastes or both and why (not to be confused with your personal favorite albums...End of Days impacted me very much, but it wouldn't make my top 25 album list)...I'm gonna go ahead and put 6, but you can put more or less, doesn't matter. Oh, and mine are in order, 1 being album with the most impact:
1. Morning View by Incubus: simply because I had never heard anything like it before in my life. It has basically set the bar for other albums I hear as far as what a truly good album should sound like. It's so diverse...soothing, mellow, fierce, loud, artistic...this one has also been my favorite album of all time to date since I got into it.
2. End of Days Soundtrack: This one has good and bad artists on it...the good being Korn, Everlast, Guns N Roses, Sonic Youth, Rob Zombie...the bad being Eminem, Limp Bizkit, Creed (although I think the Creed song on there is the ONLY good song they've put out). So its not a TREMENDOUS album...but the thing about this one is I got it as a Christmas present from my older cousin in 8th grade...before my musical tastes had a sense of identity. It pretty much exposed me to music beyond the stuff on the pop charts.
3. There Is Nothing Left To Lose by Foo Fighters: My first Foo Fighter album, and the first album I had gotten by an artist I had discovered on my own. Another album that really sounded unique to me, and to this day, still does. Probably one of their best I would say
4. Toxicity by System of a Down: I credit this album for getting me started on drumming. The first few songs I learned how to play on the set were Psycho, Chop Suey, Toxicity, Aerials, & Prison Song
5. Live by 311: This was the second 311 album I had gotten...the first, From Chaos, kind of gave me a raw first impression, but Live has some really good earlier 311 tracks (and they're live!) This one didn't really change anything for me personally except it triggered my love for 311, which is pretty much all I listened to my junior and senior years of high school.
6. Garden State Soundtrack: This one is a more recent album...its the only one on this list that I got while in college. If nothing else, it exposed me to a list of new artists like the Shins, Zero 7, Nick Drake, Thievery Corporation, and Colin Hay.
