Moments

I live for moments like these:
the split-second on the coaster when the world waits
halfway betwen levity and gravity

before the sky retreats
before the gears grate.
The moments like these,

just before the music repeats
leave me, body heavy, but breath baited,
halfway between levity and gravity.

Or when a book, a character, a phrase exceeds
the real world of here and now, of time and space,
it is moments like these

that do not last, but fleet
of foot or wing, they slip away
to someplace between levity and gravity.

leaving my heart forgetful of how to beat.
Instead my soul breathes free and unafraid
of moments just like these,
halfway between gravity and levity.
