As for Sasuke, he is only assuming the alliance will collapse without a common enemy to fight. I think he is wrong. It is possible for former enemies to become allies and create a long standing peace as we have seen in the RL. I believe the alliance will continue long after the war because it benefits the parties involved.

Of course it can happen, but it does not just "happen", but people need to work for this and they need to resolve existing problems. And for this, people from different villages need to work together. (Though maybe, as we have now learnt that the rivalry between Senju and Uchiha is the source of everything that's evil in the Narutoverse, maybe the two boys working together will also bring peace. On the other hand, with Naruto and Sasuke the sole survivors, there are not many real conflicts that need to be resolved, "only" old grudges (which can be bad enough).

Well, I remember that he said that Itachi is no longer important to him; on the other hand he said that Itachi should have been Hokage and that he wanted to be the kind of Hokage Itachi should have been.
