I'm later than usual, and there's no pictures this week (unless I find a moment to put them in later) but I will try to make up for that with the discussion, even though I feel like I'm rehashing a lot of old issues with it. It also might interest you all to know that Shonen jump has confirmed Naruto will be ending in 5 chapters, so this is ( Read more... )

First off, welcome back kagenjoujo!

Some people over in the Chuunin thread have been making comparisons between Sasuke's plan and Lelouch from Code Geass. I didn't finish watching Code Geass, but my understanding is that Lelouch sets himself up as a villain that the world has no choice but to unite against if they don't want to get completely steamrolled. The idea is that this would get people to put aside their differences and work together. It's true that a common enemy or danger can bring people together, but the real question is how you keep the alliance going once the danger is past. Because of that, I think Sasuke is responding to the wrong challenge. The Narutoverse has already had a common enemy in Obito and Madara, and managed to pull together and fight them without all getting in each other's way. What needs to be done now is to cement that alliance in peacetime. Naruto's ability to chakra/mind-link people might be a potential answer to that, and if either Naruto or Sasuke learned the secret of ninshuu from Hagoromo, that could be an answer too. But Sasuke's plan is trying to address the challenge that's already been met, not the one that lies ahead.

Also, Sasuke's intent to erase the past actually makes it less likely that a lasting peace will be forged. There's a famous quote, "Those who fail to remember history are doomed to repeat it." Part of the reason why we teach kids about things like slavery, the Holocaust, or the Trail of Tears is in the hope that next generations will avoid making the same mistakes their ancestors did. In the Narutoverse, remembering things like the Uchiha Massacre or the Hidden Mist's former graduation exam, or the purges of people with Advanced Bloodlines in the Water Country could serve a similar purpose.

Excellent point. I guess Sasuke isn't very optimistic about the alliance lasting though.

I'm not sure ninshuu would really be the answer because people had in ninshuu in the past, but then after the Sage died they went and turned it into ninjutsu and made everything worse. So it might work as long as Naruto's alive but not after that. But given there's only five chapters, I doubt we'll see anything to do with that anway.

"Those who fail to remember history are doomed to repeat it."

This quote was in my mind while I was reading this chapter.
