Chapter 5

After Jaejoong’s heated conversation with Yunho, he didn’t feel like going back home. Being alone in his house would only remind him of the pain and loneliness. Instead of going to the bus stop, he went to one of the many local restaurants in the streets of Seoul to have a drink. He didn’t bother to call his friends for company because he wanted to be alone.

Jaejoong chose an empty table near the entrance to the restaurant and sat down.

“Ahjumma, pork ribs and two bottles of soju here.” Jaejoong ordered. There weren’t many people in the restaurant. Only three tables were occupied, including Jaejoong’s. One table seated a man and a woman who looked like a couple. They were chatting happily with each other and the way they look at one another said it all. Jaejoong knew they were in love because that was exactly how he looked at Yunho before, no, much more than that. Being reminded of Yunho once again made his blood boil with anger and at the same time, sadness and longing.

The remaining occupied table seated two men in gray suits. Their table was at the corner of the restaurant, very far away from Jaejoong. They kept on glancing at Jaejoong but the latter didn’t notice it because he was so immersed into hating everything about Yunho.

As soon as Jaejoong got his order, he quickly poured himself a glassful of soju and downed it in one gulp. The liquid slightly burned his throat and that sensation was what he wanted. Not satisfied, Jaejoong asked for a bigger glass from the middle-aged lady attending the customers.

In just a few minutes, he had already drained a bottle of suju of its contents, down to the very last drop. A few minutes more, and the second bottle became empty. Still craving for more, he ordered four bottles and drank non-stop. With every glass full of alcohol, Jaejoong wished that it would wash away all of his memories of the man who hurt him.

“Damn you, Yunho. Look at what you have made me into. I’m so wasted and I guess you’re rejoicing right now.” Jaejoong whispered bitterly. He was already drunk and his head was starting to get dizzy. He paid his bill and it was a miracle that he was able to leave the restaurant without losing his balance. He was wobbling dangerously as he walked to the bus stop.

“Hmm, maybe I should just take a cab.” Jaejoong considered. “Right, I really should just call a cab.”

After Jaejoong left the restaurant, the two men paid their bill and trailed behind him. Jaejoong didn’t notice them for he was very drunk. He wasn’t paying attention to whatever was happening around him. All he wanted was to get back to his house and sleep. He stopped at the side of the road and waited for a taxi.

The two men following Jaejoong didn’t do anything to him. They just observed him from afar and waited for him to hail a taxi. They watched as Jaejoong got inside the taxi and leave. Once Jaejoong was out of sight, one of them grabbed his phone from his pocket and dialled a number.

When Yunho opened the door to his father’s house, the entire house was enveloped by darkness. Not a single light was turned on. He entered the house and switched on the light in the living room. He glanced around the house and noticed an eerie atmosphere. Fear slowly crept inside him and his heart beat faster.

“Appa” Yunho called as he searched the house for his father. He had just come home straight from work and he remembered his father telling him that he would be waiting in the house. He checked the entire first floor but he didn’t see his father.

“Hmm, maybe he’s in his study room.” Yunho wondered and went up the staircase. He grabbed the doorknob to his father’s room and gripped it tightly. A sudden jolt of fear coursed inside Yunho’s body. It wasn’t a good sign. Pulling up every ounce of his courage, Yunho opened the door.

“Appa?” Yunho called out. The room was very dark and he couldn’t see anything. No one answered and he turned on the switch on the wall. Bright light filled the entire room and revealed his father. His limp body was sprawled on the floor and he was lying on a pool of his own blood.

“Appa!” Yunho cried and dashed to his father’s side. Tears streamed down Yunho’s handsome face.

“Y-Yunho...” his father said in a very low voice as he opened his eyes. It took whatever remained of his energy to even utter his son’s name. He didn’t have much time left and he needed to tell Yunho something very important.

“Listen carefully. I hid something from you and I’m very sorry. Take my phone with you and call Park Sawoo. He’ll explain everything to you.”

‘Park Sawoo? Hid something from me? What is he talking about?’ Yunho thought as his father’s words intrigued him.

“As my dying wish Yunho, you...you need to finish what I have started. You have to join the brotherhood.” Yunho’s father said and he started to breathe heavily.

“Brotherhood? Appa, what are you talking about?”

“Yunho...please...”

Yunho eyes opened. He dreamt of that night again. He was drenched in sweat and he was breathing heavily. It always happens to him every time he dreams of his father’s death. It was a constant reminder to him of his mission.

The door to his room opened and a man in his 50’s entered the room.

“Yunho, are you okay?” the man said as he took in Yunho’s state.

“I’m okay Uncle Sawoo. I just dreamt of Appa’s death again.” Yunho said and calmed himself down. He had fallen asleep in his comfortable chair behind his table due to tiredness.

“It had been a long time since you last dreamt about that.” Sawoo said and sat on one of the chairs in front of Yunho’s table.

“Yeah. By the way, what brings you here?”Yunho inquired.

“It’s about Kim Jaejoong.”

“What about him?” Yunho asked, feeling slightly scared of what he was about to hear.

“I think he’s in danger.” Sawoo said.

“Why?” Fear crept inside Yunho’s system. His greatest weakness was Jaejoong.

“You ordered one of your men to follow him to ensure his safety, right? Well, he reported to me earlier and said that two men were also following Jaejoong.”

“You think they are from the enemy’s side?”

“Yes. I think they had you followed and watched your every move. Have you met and talked to Jaejoong these days?” Sawoo asked.

“Yes.” Yunho answered. Guilt was eating him inside. If anything bad happens to Jaejoong, he was the only one to blame.

“That explains everything Yunho. They are planning to use Jaejoong against you. Jaejoong shouldn’t be left alone unprotected.” Sawoo said. He was the only one who knew about Yunho’s love for Jaejoong. Ever since his friend died, he replaced him as a father figure to Yunho.

“I know.”

Jaejoong sat beside the window of the bus. It was another day of work for him; a day to drown himself in work and try his hardest to forget Yunho. Every day was the same boring day for him. Waking up in the morning didn’t give Jaejoong any excitement. It was like he was physically alive but emotionally dead. It had been like that since he had his heart deeply scarred and broken by Yunho.

As he glanced outside the window, he was starting to think what his purpose on Earth was and why he was still waking up every day to live his so-called “insignificant and boring” life. Before he saw Yunho again, the answer was simple. He lived every single day of his life in hopes of seeing Yunho. But in the present situation, Jaejoong didn’t have an answer to his question.

The bus stopped and it was time for Jaejoong to go back to reality and face his life. He got up and joined the people getting down the bus. The bus left the bus stop after a few seconds. Before walking towards his company building, Jaejoong let out a tired sigh. He dragged his body towards work, expecting another day of the same routine.

Jaejoong was already in front of the building that he worked at. He was about to enter through the glass doors when a hand tightly grasped his wrist.

“We need to go. Now.”

Jaejoong looked up to the person who suddenly appeared and his eyes widened when he saw Yunho. Instead of his black sleek suit, Yunho was wearing comfortable clothes. He donned a gray shirt, fashionable jeans, and a black jacket.

“Let go of me!” Jaejoong came back to his senses after becoming entranced at Yunho’s handsome features. He tried to escape Yunho’s hold but it was impossible. Yunho was much stronger than him.

“Cut the crap Jaejoong! Just come with me!” Yunho said as they didn’t have enough time. He pulled Jaejoong along with him as he ran. But it wasn’t easy because the man that he was trying to protect was stubborn as hell. Jaejoong tried his best to remove Yunho’s tight grip on his wrist. He jerked his body, making it difficult for Yunho.

“Yah! Let go of me! Jung Yunho!!! You bastard!!!” Jaejoong cursed. People were starting to stare at them because of the commotion they were making.

“Shut the hell up Kim Jaejoong!” Yunho shot back and stopped walking. Not taking his hand from Jaejoong’s wrist, he used his free hand to wrap it around Jaejoong’s knees as he lowered his body. He carried Jaejoong on his shoulders.

“Yah! What are you doing?! Let me down!!! This is kidnapping!!!” Jaejoong screamed at the top of his lungs. “Help! Someone help me!”

Two policemen approached them.

“Officers, no need to worry. I’m just here to get my boyfriend who ran away from me. Everything is under control.” Yunho explained and flashed a smile. Jaejoong was still squirming his body to get out of Yunho’s hold.

“Oh, okay then.” the policeman said.

“Officer! This man is lying! I’m being kidnapped here, goddamnit!” Jaejoong shouted. His face couldn’t be seen by the policemen because Yunho was facing them and his face was on Yunho’s back.

“I’m so sorry for the commotion officers. I really have some serious talking to do with my boyfriend here. Excuse us.” Yunho said and carried Jaejoong to his red Ferrari. He dropped Jaejoong to the seat beside the driver’s seat and quickly got inside the car. They left the two policemen speechless and confused.
