Re: Cut up into an unspecified amount of mini-sections! :D;;ckret2July 11 2010, 08:58:48 UTC
Kisame splashed him again. This time, he managed to get the brat full in the face. Suigetsu pulled back, spluttering. "He's not even looking," Kisame said. "Besides, what the hell are you talking about? Is that the kind of stuff you think about, Suigetsu?"
Suigetsu scowled. "Of course not! I was just saying... that he was... you know... just... watching and all..."
"And what are YOU doing?" That was Zabuza. Kisame appreciated the support. (Late though it was.)
His scowl deepened. "I was just-I'm gonna join the team next year, so I-screw you!" He stomped off. "Hey Itachi, I'm gonna go find your brother and get in trouble with him!"
"Hn?" Itachi didn't even look up from his book. "Fine. Just don't get him in any trouble."
There were snickers. Itachi didn't notice.
-(YES THIS IS A SCENE BREAK)-
"Can you drop me off first?"
"No, Sasuke."
"But we pass the house to get to Kisame's anyway"
"No, we don't. I'd have to drive Kisame around another half hour if I dropped you off."
"So? I had to wait for HIM for four hours, I don't see why he can't wait for me for thirty minutes!"
"Sasuke..."
"Itachi, it's fine," Kisame said. "If you want to drop Sasuke off first, go ahead."
"See, Itachi?! He said it's fine!"
"Besides," Kisame added. "I was going to ask you if you wanted to come over for dinner anyway."
Itachi glanced over at Kisame-the first time his eyes had even wavered from the road since turning on the car. (The guy could focus like nobody's business.) "Oh?" He looked straight forward again. "All right."
"Can you PLEASE drop me off first?"
"Fine."
"GREAT!" Sasuke heaved a sigh of relief and flopped back in his car seat, as if he'd just been informed that the waterboarding equipment was busted and his daily session had been cancelled. Kisame just grinned at his theatrics. How had Itachi and Sasuke ended up related, anyway? Itachi hadn't been that bratty in junior high.
After a moment, Sasuke asked, "Why do you go over to Kisame's house so often for dinner, these days?"
"Because you're not there."
"Itachi!" Sasuke leaned forward to punch him in the arm.
"Sasuke! You can't hit me, I'm driving." But Kisame could see Itachi was trying not to smile.
When they reached the Uchiha household, Sasuke was out the door and halfway up the driveway almost before the car had stopped. Itachi waited long enough to make sure he got inside, and then started down the street again.
"So. What's for dinner?"
"Your choice," Kisame said. "I didn't even know I was inviting you over until a few minutes ago."
"Oh?" Itachi's gaze never wavered from the road, but his expression grew slightly more thoughtful. "Any good leftovers?"
"Not really. I think there's some burgers, but they're getting kinda old."
"Pizza? I'll pay for half."
Kisame grinned. "The usual?"
"If you have to." The usual was pineapple and anchovies. Didn't matter how much Itachi acted like he didn't love it, Kisame knew he did.
"If I call now, it'll get there about the time we do."
"All right."
"Can I borrow your phone?" Kisame never, ever had his phone. The same way he never, ever drove himself anywhere. He was always with Itachi anyway, why bother?
"Backpack."
Kisame reached into the back seat and pulled up Itachi's backpack, and went straight to the pouch containing Itachi's cell phone. Of course he knew where it was. They were in and out of each other's backpacks so frequently that Kisame had gotten into the habit of carrying Itachi's textbooks for the classes they shared.
After making the call, Kisame said, "You know, I think Suigetsu's about to figure us out."
"Hn. I heard him." Itachi didn't seem fazed at all. "He's just being his age."
"That doesn't bother you?"
Itachi shrugged. "Not particularly. It's worth it to get to watch you swim."
"Heh. You didn't look like you were watching."
"Good."
Itachi's eyes never strayed from the road, but Kisame knew he could see him all the same.

The conversation between the Uchiha brothers is so much win. "See, Itachi?! He said it's fine!" and ZABUZA and Kisame being kinda weird-nice and SUIGETSU GODDAMN. *A*
