The Hyuuga and Arranged Marriages

Feb 03, 2006 18:36

Figured that since no one else was posting, I would.

Arranged marriages are definitely popular among fanfiction writers, especially for those characters who come from a clan. The Hyuuga are especially prone to this according to fanon; I'm not going to discuss that with the exception of saying that arranged marriages within the clan would make sense in order to preserve the bloodline limit. (Someone else should start a discussion for this.)

If I were Hiashi, there is no doubt that I would want Neji to sire children. Neji is easily one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful Hyuuga of his generation. So far, he has surpassed both Hinata and Hanabi.

To me, it would be obvious to have Neji marry someone from the Main House and keep his children within the Main House line.

But if I were Hiashi, I would not have him marry Hinata. Why?

Because she is weak.

(This is the point where I say that I do like Hinata and remind you I'm talking from Hiashi's POV.)

From what we've seen in canon, Hiashi has repeatedly said that Hinata is weak. She is a disappointment to her clan. (According to Kurenai, she's almost gotten killed on more than one mission, which boggles the mind, considering they should only have taken D and C rank missions.) Her sister, five years younger, has surpassed what Hinata was capable of doing at Hanabi's age by leaps and bounds. Hanabi is easily the better kunoichi, in skills, talent, and over-all Hyuuga demeanor.

If I were Hiashi, I would not risk any of Neji's children being 'contaminated' by Hinata. I don't mean that she really is inherently weak-I think she is capable of becoming a good kunoichi-but she is not a person I would want to be raising children who would become the living weapons of Konohagakure and the Hyuuga Clan. It is her personality that would make her unfit to raise Neji's children.

"But wait-" I can hear some of you cry "-with Hinata the kids might actually be emotionally well-developed!"

Precisely.

The Hyuuga do not favor those who are kind and soft and humble. They are after strength. The Hyuuga are the noble clan of Konoha. They are the personification of what ninja should be. This is the clan that keeps a large segment of their relatives under the constant threat of physical agony.

Hinata is incapable of controlling her embarrassment whenever she comes within fifty feet of Naruto. Can you imagine her teaching her children how to live up to the Hyuuga (or even ninja) standards when she can't even do it herself? In the eyes of Hiashi (and probably most of the clan for that matter), she would be the absolute last choice to be the mother of Neji's children.

Unless Hinata loses everything about her that we love her for, there's no way Hiashi would considering marrying her to Neji.

How's that for an introductory topic starter?

EDIT: Hanabi is seven, five years younger, not five and seven years younger.
