While the bars would not hold Tsurude for long, the cell was made with the intent to keep Sakurai in there, at least. They'd hold long enough for Orochimayu to get there.
But Haku waited quietly to the side for Tsurude. His words did not sting, she did agree with them. She was better off dead. Wanting to make sure Zabuya-san returned to the grave with her was the only thing that kept her from begging the mercy of death from Tsurude right then. Perhaps that was why she was chosen -- Orochimayu knew no matter how much Haku loathed this existence, she would do everything to make sure her beloved Zabuya-san was not left alone to it.
"And your student would be better off dead than having to go through what the snake did to him." Haku said quietly, tiny and demure compared to Tsurude even in her large zori. "I do not mean that maliciously -- I wished him dead out of mercy. Best you go quick before the snake changes her mind as she is wont to do... I will deliver your message." She smirked, but only with the side of her mouth hidden by the mask.
