Leigh's well-worn travel pack sat on her bed surrounded by possibilities for things to take with her: pajamas and a case for toiletries, underclothes, jumpsuits, extra bandages, her swimsuit (one never knew...), some loose-fitting clothes that would help keep her cool, an extra set of leg warmers, a kimono and everything that entailed (formal occasions could have a nasty habit of sneaking up on the unsuspecting), sunscreen, sunglasses, a couple books, her cookbook, high-energy ration bars, a plethora of canteens for water, the usual compliment of weapons next to her hip pouch and kunai holster, money belt, current knitting project (Sakurai-kun's hat), extra knitting supplies so she could teach Gaara-chan and Naruko-chan at the same time...
She stepped back and considered if she would need anything else. Risu blinked and chittered from where she stood on Leigh's dresser. Smiling, Leigh stroked the squirrel's head. "Sorry, Risu, but Wind Country's too hot for a woodlander like you," she said apologetically. "But I'll bring you back a souvenir, how's that?" Risu twisted to jump onto Leigh's hand and run up her arm, claiming her usual spot on Leigh's shoulder.
"I'll take it that's a 'no'," she remarked. Adding enough squirrel rations for the trip wouldn't take up space she couldn't spare, anyway. "What else..." She still hadn't thought of anything she could get to bring as a 'something from Konoha' that Gaara-chan could have. Maybe Naruko-chan would have a few ideas? Leigh also made a mental note to send a message from the mews so Gaara-chan could have a better awareness on timetable. And because Leigh had a certain degree of paranoia. She didn't expect anything to happen, but they had a lot of ground to cover in the three-day journey to Sunagakure and it was always better to be prepared.
Everything was packed neatly and orderly with maybe a little cramming here and there, but it was nothing Leigh couldn't handle. Indeed, even the pack had weights sewn into it. Once she was done, she shouldered the pack, and with Risu on her shoulder, left the apartment (locking it of course) for Naruko-chan's.
Naruko didn't have much to pack, as she hardly had anything she owned. Clothes were packed and ready to go, and she had stuffed her pack full of rations for the trip. Perched on the edge of a counter, she considered her things as she stuffed her mouth with instant ramen. Was she forgetting anything?
The sound of someone knocking on the door had her off the counter in an instant. "Coming~!"
"Hi, Naruko-chan!" Leigh said cheerfully when the door opened. "You ready to go?"
"Mm!" Naruko quickly emptied the cup, savoring the broth as best she could in a hurry. It was going to be a while before she got to have any ramen again. Snatching up her pack she was out the door, locking it behind her and stashing the key in its safe spot. "Let's go!"
"YOSH!! First stop on the way out is the message-mews. Maybe during that time we could decide on a souvenir or something to bring Gaara-chan?" Leigh asked. "I've been thinking, but I really can't think of anything the shops would have that Gaara-chan might like."
"A souvenir?" Naruko scratched the back of her head, thinking hard. After a while though, she shook her head solemnly. "I can't think of anything."
"Ah, well. She'll just have to live with us being there," Leigh grinned. The visit to the mews was quick, and a message was also sent to Tsurude-sama to let them know they were off. "All right! We are now all set to for our trip to Sunagakure~!"
