Joke's on you, suckers [Asuka, Team Tentsuke/Konohako]

Aug 13, 2008 19:57

It was a pretty nice morning, for August. Overnight it had rained, which helped cool the morning down and prevented it from getting sweltering by seven. Instead, it didn't start sweltering until nine, which was of course when Asuka had told team Tentsuke - now team.... something - to show up at the training field ( Read more... )

One thing could be said about Konohako - she was seldom late to anything. In fact, most times she was a bit early. Ebisu had done her job well in some areas.

So...Konohako looked around with a sigh. The problem with being the first to arrive from her team meant she was likely to be bored. Kicking half-heartedly at a rock, she stood for a moment glancing around - at the ground, at the trees that mostly surrounded the place, at the sky.

Moegi arrived shortly after Konohako. Ebisu also taught him to be prompt. He learned to wake up earlier to allow for looking his best.

"Hiya," he said cheerfully."Anyone else here yet?"

Konohako turned and smiled brightly. At least Moegi had come before Sachiko. His company was usually preferable.

"Hey, Moe-kun!" she greeted cheerily and then shrugged. "Doesn't seem like Sachiko is here yet but I haven't really looked around that much."

Sachiko didn't know why Asuka wanted to speak to them. Probably it was about Tentsuke. After the announcement last month that he was MIA, Sachiko had a feeling that whatever Asuka had to say wouldn't be good news ( ... )

She didn't want to be here. She didn't want to do this. But she didn't have a choice. More importantly than that, this was part of her punishment from Tsurude, and he knew better than anyone was kind of punishment there was in making her do something she would completely loathe. And this time, he didn't have to be involved with it, either. (Though she still resented the asshole for catching the flu at the last convenient second. If he was going to make her live through the gala, he should have suffered through it, too ( ... )

Sachiko's gaze was flat as she regarded the elder Sarutobi. "We know," she said. "Tsurude-sama informed us at the beginning of the month."

"Isn't that peachy," came Asuka's irritated retort. He told them back at the beginning of the month, while waiting until now to tell her his decision about making her their sensei? He should have had this in mind since - no, she knew he'd had this in mind for just as long, if not longer. He'd deliberately waited just to piss her off, hadn't he? "But I'm guessing he didn't say anything about me being your new sensei, did he?"

"Oh hell; you?"

Then Sachiko clapped her mouth shut, realizing that was probably not the most polite or politic thing to say, but dealing with Asuka as her captain had been one thing. Dealing as Asuka as her sensei was something entirely other. (Though Sachiko's mind did reflect that back in the day, Shikako of Team Ten had been the first of their year to get the chuunin promotion.)

Still, Sachiko wasn't pleased with this prospect. Unfortunately, what the Hokage decided, the Hokage decided. She'd have to suck it up and deal with it.

--They both will, to judge from Asuka's own attitude.
