[takes place not too long after Jimaiya finds Kureno and Aki, before they all head to the gala. personally, given how long it took the original party to get to the palace, this is probably taking place during gala day 2]Just because certain individuals were off to spend several days parading in front of the Daimyo to honor an action that no one in ( Read more... )

What? Nejiko thought at the same time as She's as loud as Gaia-sensei.

She lacked the time to make such utterances aloud, had she been inclined to do so. Instead her mind was already working to obey. Jimaiya-sama wasn't the Hokage, but she frequently acted on the Hokage's behalf, and he was also a Sannin.

Figuring out who to take with her was a problem of a different sort. Nejiko wasn't officially a part of any ANBU team yet, operating as a solo agent currently working with the Sentry division. She hoped to someday make it to the Hunter division where her skills and her bloodline would be put to better use.

If there was a problem at the gala that prompted ANBU numbers greater than the Sentries already sent with the clan representatives, chances were decent it would be Hunters that Jimaiya-sama needed. Nejiko had only met a few so far so coming up with a capable team (that wasn't Tentsuke and Leigh) in such short notice would be--difficult.

How fortunate Nejiko adored a challenge.

She nodded an affirmative before disappearing with the sound of rushing air. The quickest route would be to check the roster of who were currently on duty and who hadn't come on for their shift, who was in the building, and which of all groups were Hunters. Hunters tended towards the more numerous as they tended to have the shortest lifespan and a constant influx of fresh blood was needed. But an Intel (field-ops, preferably) and a Sentry (herself) in addition to two Hunters should comprise a suitable team. As a Sentry she could know how the other Sentries would be reacting in the face of a crisis, and she knew even if only by name those who had been assigned to the gala. She also knew who would be in command of the ANBU already there, instead of wasting time querying before finding.

(Not disregarding the proven fact Nejiko was a genius in her own right and her own ability to process many different stimuli at once, which enabled her to follow several trains of thought while also granting her a boost in analytical ability, she still hadn't gone through the specialized training that an ANBU Intel agent would have to undergo in order to correctly assess a unknown, rapidly-changing and potentially chaotic situation to formulate the best plan for mission success in the least amount of time so as to not hinder execution of the plan. Nejiko wasn't incapable; she simply would need more time then they might have.)

In addition to having the field experience more conducive to assisting Jimaiya-sama, a field-ops Intel also possessed the necessary combat expertise that Nejiko would want. The Intel could conduct an interrogation if any captives were taken, if Ibiki were for some reason rendered unable to perform it herself.

Meanwhile the Hunters' main task would be to eliminate the threat once it had been found. In that, too, Nejiko's eyes would allow for faster location of the disturbance's source.

All this Nejiko kept in mind while she used Byakugan to check the roster as it was much faster than physically flipping through the pages. Finding names she needed, she then set about finding them and relaying Jimaiya-sama's request-order along with the pre-departure meeting location. Then bounding to her locker and dressing into uniform, weapons, and pouches in record time; coming to a stop next Jimaiya-sama approximately 23 seconds before the deadline.

"I have no team at all," she explained, "so I took the second option and selected individuals that I believe will be sufficient. What should we expect?"

'...Not a bad selection,' Jimaiya had to admit, looking her assistants over. There was a variety of skill here which was clever considering she hadn't left Nejiko with any scenario to work around. And to do this work in such a short time... There would be at least one nice thing on her report to Tsurude when they got back. Jimaiya hoped the rest of this mission went as promising.

"A plot has been discovered involving an Akatsuki wishing for revenge against Sarutobi Asuka, and planning to execute her at the gala. Plenty of shinobi are already in attendance but their forces will be severely spread due to the number of VIPs they will need to protect. Our job once we arrive is to subdue any attacking enemies, leave guest escort and protection to the others. Capture is preferable and is an order if possible. If they're too powerful however, kill them. Our priority is to protect the Daimyo and other country representatives there by stopping the enemy quickly and efficiently.

Any other questions?"

Akatsuki? Nejiko quirked a brow thoughtfully before sliding her mask into place over her features. She never would have thought the people in that group would care if one of their own lived or died. Either she was wrong, or Asuka-sempai was just that special.

"The number and/or abilities of the Akatsuki involved in the plot, their villages of origin, and their names," she responded promptly, "in that order of priority. If you have them. Barring that, whatever you might know about the individuals involved."

Good questions. To the point. Jimaiya liked that.

"There's only one pair as far as I can tell, the name of one being Deidara or the Rock Village, I believe. The other remains unknown, though seems to be a new recruit to the organization. Other than that, their abilities are unknown as is their jutsu. We're flying into this one almost blind, got that!"
